Training Event Description:

Drs. Don and Carrie Cole are offering a new one-day training on intimate partner aggression. In this training, you will learn the definition of Intimate Partner Aggression (IPA). Background research, as well as the relationship between IPA and domestic violence, will be discussed. There are multiple forms of aggression. Each of these will be identified and explained, along with the contributing factors of aggression. You will learn how to assess and differentiate between situational and characterological IPA. Finally, you will learn how to treat IPA when appropriate, using Gottman method interventions.

Attendees will learn to:

• Identify situational versus characterological aggression.
• Identify strategies for dealing with characterological aggression.
• Learn the four major treatment goals for reducing aggression in couples.
• Apply proper treatment strategies for bi-directional aggression and for unidirectional aggression.
• Recognize underlying contributing factors to IPA and how these can be dealt with in therapy.

7 CE hours are available.
